I am getting spam linked to your site

I registered to your site yesterday and a few hours later I recieved spam that is linked to your site. It was sent to undisclosed recipients, so I am sure I am not the only person to have received it.

I haven't posted on the forum before, so I assume you have a hole somewhere for them to get my email address.

I have uploaded an image of the email.

Not happy about this and I am sure neither are you.

It's possible they received your email from the members tab within the forum here. I will talk with David and our developers in reference to if anything can be done about this. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hi Tra8der, Thank you for taking the time to post the email. You are correct: we are not happy about this. As Suzanne wrote, we are talking with our developer about how to fix this. Thank you again for feeding back, b/c this is the first instance and we are grateful to at least be aware of the problem, David

It's because the addresses are displayed on your posts and are public. I got spam too. I googled my email address and found that my email address was on lots of message boards and forums (ie was used to post spam). The only legitimate forum that turned it up in the google search was BT so I'm guessing that some bot just trawled the site to collect the addresses and posted spam under my email address in other places. I changed a setting in profile though so hopefully it is not visible anymore. It's unfortunate as now my email address is on a lot of other forums where it can be picked up by other bots. I just hope my spam filter can do a good job!

Morrin,
I apologize for this. We are working to correct this issue immediately. I've already posted an announcement here and a forum entry here for information on how users can update their screen name to not reflect their email address. As David stated above, we are NOT happy about this and are working to rectify the issue now.
