Relevance of Study materials

Hi David,

I wanted to know how much of a difference is there between FRM lvl 1 materials in any consecutive years. I bought my lvl 1 prep material, but I suddenly have a lot of things going on for me. Because of this, its quite a challenge to cover the study materials. I have given CFA Level 2 recently, so was wondering if I would be able to use the same study materials even if I register for the next year's exam. Or does GARP change the curriculum so much that the previous year's study materials are rendered useless. Appreciate your help :)

Thanks,
Ajit

If you are asking about GARPs assigned readings:
There was little change to Part 1 this year from last year as David pointed out in a separate post. Seems like readings that cover CAPM, John Hull's material Jorion's material, and Tuckman's material is pretty stable [maybe with the exception of John Hull's Operational Risk chapter]

Statistics/econometrics has been changed in the past but the central concepts remain the same and are all pretty basic. If in doubt do the slightly more extensive/harder Gujarati exercises as GARP included material they supposedly had excluded from the AIMS in the May 2012 exam.

However, who knows, things might change a bit, but I think the aforementioned readings are a safe bet, even if they choose to source the material from another author. Definitely don't see that happening with Jorion though as he seems to have a sugar sweet and cosy relationship with GARP.

Thanks for the reply Aleksander. I have started with the Quant material for FRM Part 1 2012. Guess I would be able to make up my mind abt it in a day's time once my CFA Level 2 results are out. Would I still have access to the BT Materials that I subscribed for this year, if I decide to take the exam in 2013? Also, could you provide me with a link to the other discussion that you mentioned above?

Thanks,
Ajit

Hi Ajit,

Your purchase with bionicturtle.com is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. You would continue to have access through your expiration date. If you need access to the contents after the year access period, you would need to purchase your product selection again.

Part 1 Impressions are here: http://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/first-impressions-2012-frm-part-1-l1-reading-list.5012/
Part 2 Impressions are here: http://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/first-impressions-2012-frm-part-2-l2-reading-list.5024/

I hope that helps!

Thanks,
Suzanne
