Hello,
I registered for the 2012 FRM Part 1 and already ordered the 4 books from GARP: http://www.garpdigitallibrary.org/display/product.asp?pid=2425

However for personal reasons, I won't be able to take the exam in 2012. I paid $260 including shipping for the books and I literally just got the books 6 days ago on 12/20/11. If you're registering for the 2012 FRM Part 1, can you please do me a favor and order the books from me instead? NY areas preferred. I just need to recoup as much as possible. If you're interested please email me at [email protected] and we can talk.
Thanks.

Hello All,

Also selling 2012 FRM Part 1 books for personal reasons. They are original package and never opened. European candidates preferred since books are already shipped. I'd go for $200 instead of $250 as GARP sells them. Please contact me at [email protected] for immediate shipping.

Thank you.

FRM Part 1 books (2012) for sale. Used for exam preparation once but still in very good condition. Would sell for $140+shipping. Prefer European buyers.

Please contact me via [email protected] if interested.

Hi everyone,
Is this legal?
Can we actually resell GARP books without violating copy rights of writers or publishers?

You have to ask the garp people themselves if it is legal to resell the books without violating copy rights of writers or publishers. Nevertheless it should be good idea to send a mail asking them if it is genuinely allowed. otherwise many people do it without doing such efforts on their part :).

thanks

Hi Shakti,

I actually ordered part I readings from the GARP digital library, then printed them out myself. Every chapter/assigned reading has a front page that says that ALL RIGHTS ARE RESERVED. A page long of no-nos :)

I guess it's a good things the guys here are all under aliases...or maybe that's not a coincidence :D

Hend,
Yeah may be all guys dont know or may know about copyrights violation. If there is some Garp policy that the reselling or transferring copy of original source of books is not legal then its illegal otherwise its legal. Whatever Garp people shall not take so much pain identifying each and every person who violates their rights if at all there are such rights.

CFA Institute is much more stringent in terms of copyright and other violations committed by members and candidates. Cases are visible on the CFAI website where they have reprimanded (and banned) candidates for offenses like discussing question papers, copyright violations etc.

Apparently the aliases were not that strong :)

I am not saying that it does not occur, just that I believe sooner or later GARP will tighten the belt.

yeah Fermion,
I agree that Garp shall sooner or later shall tighten the belt and become more cautious of such mistakes from the candidates in the future. CFA has well defined rules and regulation and Garp need some work to do in this area. This does not relate to point that there should be more ethics Questions in frm than cfa :) just for fun.

As if answering more Ethics questions in the exam makes one an ethical person !!
I do not want to count the unethical practices that I have seen in the industry being committed by reputed people. Neither do I want to enumerate how many of them were CFA or FRM

Add:
That in no way debases the certification or the body conducting it. Just that human psychology and behavior is now a more complex and important factor to be incorporated in the financial world.

Hi All,

I've reached out to our contact at GARP to see if they have a policy in reference to the above. I will report back as soon as I have an answer.

Thanks,
Suzanne

@Suzanne: thank you for reaching out to GARP, and I do see where our contact replied to you explicitly that "No there is not. [a GARP policy in reference to registrants re-selling their purchased contents"

However, I would note that, as far as I can tell, all of the documents in the GARP digital library (including all of my P2 chapters, purchased btw) include the following copyright text, um you know, on the first page:
No part of this material may be copied, modified, adapted, translated, reproduced, transferred or distributed. In any form or by any means, and no derivative works may be made based on this material without the prior permission of the GARP Digital Library and/or the publisher. You may not alter, remove or suppress in any manner any copyright, trademark or other notices displayed in this material. You may not license, rent, sell, loan, lease, pledge, offer as security, transfer or assign this material, or any of the rights granted to you hereunder to any other person.

I'm surprised GARP isn't aware of its own policies. Oh, nevermind, come to think of it: since GARP promotes Schweser products in its daily "GARP News" while claiming that "GARP does not endorse, promote, review or warrant the accuracy of the products or services offered by Exam providers of FRM-related information," (emphasis mine) maybe this lack of, hmmm ... what's the word I am looking for?... seriousness?... doesn't really surprise me

Hi David,
Hope all is well with you

I was referring to that earlier, and now I don't know :/

I even tried to take a screen shot of one of these front pages to post it here for members, but it was protected from screen shots!!
If they go that far to protect material, that even makes it weirder that now they say there's no policy against reselling!

"GARP does not endorse, promote, review or warrant the accuracy of the products or services offered by Exam providers of FRM-related information," (emphasis mine) maybe this lack of, hmmm ... what's the word I am looking for?... seriousness?

I think they're just being sloppy.

Problem is, if I resell and they get to know about it , what am I gonna say :"you told Suzanne Evans from BT that you don't have a policy against it" ?!
