Why is L2 80 questions vs. L1 100 questions?

Obvious assumption is L2 questions are longer, but is this the case? Given the material it does not seem obvious that L2 questions would need to be longer.

Any insight on this?

Hi tfarrell,

Good question, I am not aware of any formal explanation by GARP about the reason for 80 versus 100 (nor has it come up in their con calls with training providers, in my recollection). I do agree with you: given the L2 is not more quantitative, it's not clear why more time per question would be required. It certainly is not less material/fewer AIMS ... I would actually expect L2 to be more questions than L1, just based on (i) the more qualitative nature and (ii) the number of AIMs.... sorry i don't know, David

Thanks David. I took a 80 question practice exam this past weekend and I was done in 3:15. On L1 it was always a race to the finish, both in practice and on exam day. I guess my question is more geared towards how L2 candidates in the past felt the time constraint was compared to L1. I do not want to fall into a false sense of having much more extra time than on L1.

Hi tfarrell - here is one thread from November 2010 that has L2 feedback. Don't quote me, but I got the sense that difficulty level was more the issue than time (of course they are related) ... David

I am surprised also that there are less questions in Level 2 than the first level. Are there any sample exams here to take? I couldn't find any if there are. I just saw the Garp 2011 Sample exam questions (total of 40 questions as I recall).

Hi Braxxus,

Yes, we do have sample exams (practice questions) and we are planning for November to implement mock exams into our study preparation course!

In the meantime, I'm going to refer you to our practice questions, which can be found here: http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/questions/category/all/?product=level-1|level-2

In particular here is the super-annotated 2010 practice exams (still very relevant to 2011):
Level 1A: http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/question/2010-l1-12/
Level 1B: http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/question/2010-l1-22/
Level 2A: http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/question/2010-l2-12/
Level 2B: http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/question/2010-l2-22/

Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Good luck with your studies and you exam :)

Thanks,
Suzanne

I am familiar with the questions, which unfortunately stop at T6 (I am taking level 2), but I was not aware of the practice exams, so thank you for those links.

Braxxus,

You are welcome for the links. I will try and publish the first set of T7 today. Those questions will review Basel II.

Thanks,
Suzanne
