Practice exams

Hello,

Have you released any mock exams lately?
I searched the site and the latest I could find was 2009, and I thing it's GARP's.

What I'm looking for is BT practice exams.

Hi Hend,

No, we are not going to release new mock exams (i.e., which are merely combinations of our existing database) until early 2012 for the 2012 exams. I realize people want them, and since i've invested heavily in the question database (we have easily the deepest library, only they are organized by topic), we can produce many high-quality (but we won't make Nov exam, sorry). Thanks, David

Hi David Harper,

I was also searching for the mock exams lately, it is sad to know you won’t be releasing any until early 2012 for the 2012 exams, because I have my exam in November, your exam database is excellent with a lot of tougher questions.

But I feel mock exams help in preparing by creating a realistic exam experience and by improving our time management skills. Here is a nice Article.

By the way I searched through the entire site, and I couldn’t find the previous mock exams you are referring to, may be i didn't search properly , can you please provide any links of the previous mock exams.

Thanks
Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Thank you for the article, I missed it, but i agree, very relevant.

Sorry, i did not mean to imply we had old mock exams: I should say, we don't really have any mock exams yet. Rather, I want to spend time creating "new" and freshly relevant mock exams.
(We have super-annotated old sample exams, but this is not quite the same thing).

Sorry we won't have them available for you by November,

David

Wow :)
Thanks Ravi for the good read.

Although I have been testing myself for the past week and will continue until exam day, I still found this very informing.
I started out with 25 Q exams and am working up towards 100 Q exams to be done in the same timing of the real one over the last week. (I think the timing of level 1 exam is really bad! So early in the morning !)

Some of the challenges I think candidates face in the exam are not related to their preparedness, but rather the settings of the exam.
It's a challenge to sit in place for 4 and a half hours..without coffee :( really difficult to maintain concentration.

Wishing you all the best.

And David :), please make sure we get some practice exams when we move up to level 2 , God willing.

Hi Hend

Even, I feel the exams are too early in the morning...
Hope we clear L1 for the struggles we had to go through...
Best of Luck:)

Thanks
Ravi

I know it's no good whining,
But I just wrote to Schweser expressing my dismay over the simplicity and unlikeness of their exam-bank questions in comparison with GARP's questions.
I was able to finish a 100 question practice exam of theirs today in 2:40 hours, because it had like 1 calculation Q to every 8...nothing like GARP's almost 2:3.

And with no mock exams from BT, I feel left out in the open.
I need to work on my pace on questions that really mock the FRM exam....not just the time I sit down to solve them.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Hend, I am sorry we won't have mock exams until early next year ... in truth, I just de-prioritized their assembly in favor of writing fresh questions each day (like today). I maybe underestimated the want of mock exams because, to me, assembly of questions is less difficult than generating quality questions (i mean, it's much more time consuming to write questions) ... my gripe (of others, of the sample exams) is that I do not see many mock exams that contain really high-quality and *fresh* questions (the oldest trick in the book is to just recycle old [cfa?] questions into mock exams). Also, we had early success frankly in writing questions that "swarm" a topic: that was actually my initial motivation; e.g., to give quality drill-down on a topic so the candidate has better mastery. So, it's not to your point, but my motivation has been the quality and relevance of the individual questions (and quantity of unique questions)
... my other motive is obviously: to give comprehensive coverage of the questions: mock exams do not do that.

... and, it doesn't help you now, but I do completely hear you on the need for mock exams ... thanks, David

Thanks David, I really didn't mean to stress the lack of BT mock exams any farther. I understand your motivations and I appreciate your work here with us and your tolerance. All I meant is to ask advice and hear from other candidates here if possible. Maybe there's another way of last fortnight preparedness that I'm not doing and others are.

I appreciate your reply :)
