New to FRM and BT – Purchased 2012 FRM Part-1 Tier 2 material – Have some questions and your assistance would be appreciated

Hi Suzanne and David

I am new to this, was recommend to you by a friend, and I just purchased the 2012 FRM Part-1 Tier 2 material. :)

I was hoping that the BT material that I had just purchased would help me prepare for the 2012 FRM Part-1 exam. :)

Browsing through the BT website for the first time, I just realized that the BT 2012 FRM Part-1 is not actually 2012, as most of the stuff is still 2011. :(

And I also had a look at the BT 2012 calendar.
https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/2012-frm-calendar.5313/

Would it be fair to assume that BT will release the most updated material for the 2012 FRM Part-1 exam as per below:
Question1: BT will release all the Study Notes for the 2012 FRM Part-1 exam during the month of FEB 2012, keeping mind any unforeseen circumstances (just a simple YES or NO would be fine at this stage)?

Question2: BT will release all the Videos for the 2012 FRM Part-1 exam during the months of MAR and APR 2012, keeping mind any unforeseen circumstances (just a simple YES or NO would be fine at this stage)?

Furthermore, would you please advise me of the following:
Question3: When BT will be releasing the Spreadsheets for the 2012 FRM Part-1 (just an approximate date is fine at this stage)?

Question4: When BT will be releasing the Practice Questions for the 2012 FRM Part-1 (just an approximate date is fine at this stage)?

Question5: When BT will be releasing the Mock Exam for the 2012 FRM Part-1 (just an approximate date is fine at this stage)?

With regards to exam relevance, I need to clarify the following:
Question6: I am assuming that the ‘Essential’ topics are the ones that we definitely need to learn to pass the exam – am I right?

Question7: What does ‘Recommended+’ means? Does it mean that it is good to learn these topics if we have time, but we DO NOT need to learn the ‘Recommended+’ topics in order to pass the exam – am I right?

Question8: What does ‘Optional+’ means? Does it mean that it is good to learn these topics if we have time, but we DO NOT need to learn the ‘Optional+’ topics in order to pass the exam – am I right?

Question9: I have spent several hours on the BT website and I am still not sure where’s the full curriculum for the 2012 FRM Part-1 preparation. I cannot find a structured way that explains to me what I need to learn in a systematic order to pass the exam. I mean there are ‘Videos, Articles, Spreadsheets, Study Notes, Practice Questions, Books, Webinars, which is quite confusing as I cannot work out which ones to start first, and what exactly do I need to learn to prepare and pass the 2012 FRM Part-1 exam. Perhaps I am not looking in the right are of the BT website? Would you please help me out with that?

Question10: As per my understanding the FRM Part-1 exam contains 100 multiple choice questions, so how many questions (i.e. 65 or 70 or 75 or 80 correct questions) do we need to answer correctly to pass the exam?

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind Regards

RK

Hi,

Thank you for your purchase!
Question 1: Yes
Question 2: Yes
Question 3: I honestly don't have a final date, but we will update those after the videos.
Question 4: Practice questions are done daily through the work week, see here.
Question 5: Similar to Question 3, I'm not sure.
Question 6: Yes
Question 7: Yes you do not need to learn recommended. I'd concentrate on essential, then leave recommended if time allows. Our learning spreadsheets are categorized as recommended as they are "optional."
Question 8: Optional is as a last resort and our free contents also fall under optional. The practice questions do fall under optional when they are posted daily as they are not the premium documents. As the PQ are put into documents, the documents get categorized as Essential. As we update the 2012 contents, we will remove the 2011 from essential and replace with 2012.
Question 9: All of the 2012 contents are not fully published. Again, please see the calendar here. As a paid member we recommend that you utilize the study planner here. (David will add to this.)
Question 10: (I will leave this for David.)

Thanks,
Suzanne

Hi RK,

Your question only has 10 parts, where is the rest of it?

Per 6-8, we designed the study planner to present the sequence: http://www.bionicturtle.com/my-account/study-planner
(sort by topic or by most recent)

Question 3: Spreadsheets: near to the videos, maybe after. The issue is always a quality/timing tradeoff.
Question 5: before the exam, with enough time to do them, exact date not given so I can deliver quality
Question 9: honestly, I am convinced rigid "one-size-fits-all plans" are somewhat bogus. Good marketing, yes. But, i've prepared so many for corporate accounts, and none was ever used. Each individual varies, and most individuals change their plans over time. If i thought people would use it, I would do it, but really most people just ask for it, and don't use it. (so i spend more time writing more fresh questions that writing up study plans nobody will actually use). We do have structured email coming. I don't have the exact timing. We definitely have some planning help coming, but it will arrive when it arrives.

Also, by the way, your want of systematic structure exceeds the underlying structure of the exam itself. (if you can bear the brutal truth). The best plan is to take the AIMs, develop your own strategy, and simply start on a section.

Question 10: you can probably search the forum for dozens of threads with the same answer: there is no ex ante answer. GARP doesn't even know. They set the bar as a ratio of the top 5% score, it is a sophisticated ex-post "grading on a curve."

Thanks, David

Thanks for your responses David and Suzanne. :)

Hahaha, 10 questions were a good start, especially for someone who is totally new like myself, but I am getting the feeling that I can always count on BT if I have any more questions! ;)

By the way, I appreciate your honesty when responding to queries, you really do not beat around the bush and in fact you tell it as it is (i.e. helpful and honest advice based on your decades of experience)...and whilst considering all the things that you have been working on (i.e. ‘Videos, Articles, Spreadsheets, Study Notes, Practice Questions, Books, Webinars) this is the best advice from you "The best plan is to take the AIMs, develop your own strategy, and simply start on a section".

RK - Thanks, I really do appreciate you are good with the candor. :D And, yes, we try to be available to your questions, we do check every day ... sometimes it takes longer to reply but I am currently caught up, so i will be sneaking over to my friends house for the game for a while, then back to work this evening to grind out the T2 & T6 notes. Thanks!
