Hi David
I took level 1 exam this year and was quite comfortable answering all questions but only thing that concerend me was my time

managament skill i cold answer only 75 questions througly and rest of 25 out which i could answer only 10 with precision and rst with

guess due to lack of time.i
would also like to know that how mant students took the exams acroos the globe and were the difficulty level same for all?
were the questions asked to them were of same difficulty level.

Further i would be taking part 2 exams in november and part 1 if in case i do not clear? what the chances of my not clearling the exams looking at my performace i am very sure about my performance in first 75 questions attempted.

In case if i do not clear should i take both parts together or u suggst me to take one levelat a time.Plus i found myself to be well preapred and conceptually really sounf for the part 1 exams but my speed became an issue,do u think this shows lack of practise of exam papaers because i could solve only schwezers practice exam papaerss amd past years questions opnly i concentrated my major chunk of study time making conceptual clarity on each topics.

Hi Hemali,

It is difficult to say how many people tool FRM Level I. But I am sure it will be way under 5000.

As per GARP, they have total 17,673 FRMs across the globe. This is as of Feb 2010.

Given the total no. of FRMs, the total no. of people appearing for the exam will also not be very high.

Hey Hemali,

Following was the mail Excerpt I got from GARP on the next day of the exam :

"Yesterday you were one of approximately 9500 people in 90 locations around the world who sat for the FRM"..This means there were around 9500 people who sat for the exam. BTW , I gave both the levels.

That's great. But this brings in another insight.

If they have 17673 total FRMs, and each year approx. 9000 people sit for the exam, then the pass rate must be really low!

@ Finance Train: great website, looks like some useful finance learning, I just registered!

@hemail: actually, your self-assessment is above average and (don't quote me) would IMO be associated (be highly correlated) with a passing result.
Re: "what are chances of my not clearling?" judging solely by your self-assess, you have good odds of passing
In regard to "were the questions asked to them were of same difficulty level?" Yes, absolutely, because all candidates took the same exam

But the usual caveat: there is no long history of data for the new format (GARP itself is calibration, i'm sure)

Re: "should i take both parts together or u suggest me to take one level at a time"
IMO, you could do either depending on your goals. But given you are apparently somewhat solid on L1/P1, you could sit for both if you don't pass...

Re: "my speed became an issue,do u think this shows lack of practice of "
Yes, IMO, when speed is the primary/only issue, then the primary solution is practice questions

Hope that helps, good luck. David
