GARP Reading Q&A;

Dave, great website - I really appreciate the effort you've put into it.

I apologize if you've answered this before, but my question is:

There are end of the chapter questions for each GARP reading, but no corresponding answers. Do you have any plans to post the questions in the GARP readings along with their solutions? Or, are they already incorporated in the bionic turtle questions?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your appreciation.

Can I assume you refer to some GARP assigned readings, but not others; e.g., Wilmott seems to have end of chapter questions (w/o answers unless you buy the instructors manual). But some readings have no questions. I assume you refer to selected "built-in" end of chapter questions? Please advise if you mean something different, or if you have particular readings in mind?

But I do not have such a plan to copy/write those with answers. My plan regarding questions is to continue to write them for the AIMs/Learning Outcomes. (Time depending, I am also going to try to deploy some special EditGrid/XLS that give unlimited practice to certain key quantitative topics; e.g., bond pricing, sensitivity)...

My daily blog, from here to the exam, will be very focused on practicalities. So, if you think there is a specific reading/topics I can help with, I can try to give you extra boost here.

Thanks, David

Yes, your assumption is correct. I'm spoiled by the CFA readings where the solutions are in the back of the book and was surprised that GARP didn't provide the answers to the end of chapter questions.

But, between your questions and the handbook, I'll be fine.

I don't have any particular questions regarding the subject matter, but I'll post to your blog if I do.

Thanks again.

Right, the CFA texts are awesome...This is a slight difference (IMO) re: the CFA versus FRM exam: the FRM questions are not quite as stable ("timeless"). GARP solicits practitioner help on questions and, given the reading and topic churn, the questions are a bit more "dynamic." It makes the test harder (and maybe harder to game) as old practice questions swirl out of relevance more rapidly. For the last couple of years, folks who relied too much on "stale" questions (e.g., the FRM handbook CD-ROM was cited often last year) tended to report back that they were surprised by the questions. It's also why no strategy, IMO, should disregard the actual source texts...
