GARP AIMs relevance?

Hi,

The CFA Institute publishes something called LOS for the curriculum which basically narrows your studying effort. Or close enough.

Do the AIMs publised by GARP imply the same thing i.e. "you will only be tested on this" i.e a limit?
Or does it mean "you should focus on these but we can ask you anything from the text" i.e. a focus area only?

The portion is a whopper even with the AIMs hence the question....

Cheers,
Avi

Hi Avi,
Great point, in my recommendations to GARP I also used CFA LOS as a example/role model...I also agree this matters...
The bottom line is, I am unsure because I perceived a softening in the language around the AIMs such that it's possilbe GARP may not intend the AIMs to be comprehensive (also, a few sample questions suggest this possibility).
But rather than speculate, I just added this question to the zoho document that you can find here:
http://forum.bionicturtle.com/viewthread/1532/

I have already made GARP aware of this work-in-progress document (I sent the link last week and let them know i am still adding to it)... I will advise when we get a reply (or ideally, they will reply with a public-share response/document and we'll post that)
Thanks, David

Hi Avi,

GARP is aware of my notifications document (i.e., errors, misleading AIMs) and the Research Director did respond, here is a snippet from his email: "I can’t say too much here that isn’t generally available to all FRM candidates. The AIM statements are what they are and I can’t say one way or the other if a topic will be on the exam. I can say that the objective of the FRM is not to have candidates memorize complex formulas simply to demonstrate that they have a good memory...."

So, basically, I am giving the input, but their response, so far, has been non-specific ... I'd prefer more, of course ... I will keep you updated ...
(in truth, my hunch is 2009 is more of a workout, and the exam will be more settled next year. This is just my hunch. If you look at the L2 AIMs, in particular, there is a high degree of current redundancy and some degree of disorganization.)

But I will continue to input to them my observations and errors found, etc, so I will keep you updated

David
