FRM Exam Prep and Stats

Hello,

A cople of questions on the FRM Materials that I just bought from Bionicturtle.

1. Whats the best way to learn stats? Do you have a video class for that?
2. Is your material enough to pass FRM 1 & 2 or do I need to read GARP Materials and buy some more books?
3. How long it takes roughly to prepare for the exam? Is Nov 2011 too ambitious?

Thanks

Hi Sureshv,

1) I will ask David to answer this question. He will answer here ASAP.

2) Yes. Please see the following link: http://www.bionicturtle.com/faqs/category/frm-product/#is_it_sufficient_to_just_take_the_course_from_bionic_turtle

3) The recommended is 200+ hours per level. Therefore for both Level 1 & 2, it would be 400+ hours. No, November 2011 is not too ambitious. It just depends on how much time you have to devote. Please see the following link: http://www.bionicturtle.com/faqs/category/frm-product/#is_200_hours_enough_to_prepare_for_the_exam

Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Hi Sureshv,

With respect to (1), i wrote this two years ago (and I still consider the statistics/econometric resources fully valid, as it is foundational and somewhat timeless:
http://www.bionicturtle.com/how-to/book/additional-frm-related-reading-resources/
(e.g., one of my own "secret weapons" is my library of inexpensive Schaum's outlines)

We do not currently have separate/detached videos for statistics as a standalone topic.

Rather, I believe the best approach is to simply utilize the econometric assignment (Stock & Watson) because they approximately start from the beginning. If the goal is passing the exam (as opposed to learning stat or econometrics), it is possible to engage in distraction with other resources. The only other point I would make is that, in my opinion, the prior text (Gujarati's Econometrics), used for several years in the FRM and itself replacing an earlier Schaum's Statistics! ... a bit of ancient trivia), is quite superior to the new Stock & Watson and the assignments (AIMs) are identical. Gujarati Chapter 1 to 8 remain among the best I've used/read/engaged with on the statistics that matters to FRM. I hope that is helpful,

David
