Hi all,
I am thinking about to register for financial modeling offered by wallstreetprep.com do you think investing $400 to $500 in financial modeling will worth it or should I pursue any other course? Is there any other (computer skill) demanding course in finance?
Thank you:)!

You can check up www.edx.com for Excel, R and Python. You can also check up Coursera, although edx has more free courses - courses you can audit for free! You can also check up the SAS website - although personally, I have not paid it much attention. Will relearn SAS when I get the time. SPSS and Matlab are useful too!

Hope that helps!

Hi @Dr. Jayanthi Sankaran, I have already registered for sites you have suggested and to some courses also. I have visited SAS website and it vosts like $180, do you think learning SAS from sites like Udemy.com will help? And also can you comment something about financial modeling I think wallstreetprep.com course is promising but I have to think many times before investing $400 to $500. I really appreciate your help.
Thank you:)!

I am sorry I really do not know anything about Udemy.com...Brian had come across SpreadsheetSuperstar - they have some free videos on Youtube. Doubtful as to whether you will need C+ or C++ - in my case, I just had to implement models using Excel macros and that was coded in C+ or C++ by programmers. I am not sure about wallstreetprep.com although they do have an Excel crash course. www.cqf.com is a great website - they teach Python as part of their Certificate in Quantitative Finance. However, they are expensive! They are based in London

Hope that helps!:)

Hi @Dr. Jayanthi Sankaran, Thank you so much for your suggestions, I will think over it. Do you think getting into the industry (first job) don't need courses like financial modeling? I have considered some of the courses, please also suggest me other courses, if possible.
Thank you:)!

No, you must know Excel and SAS at the minimum. This was during my times in the mid-nineties. These days they also require you to know R and Python. And Matlab! There are some interesting free courses on www.edx.com from IIMB in Finance by Dr Narayan and Dr Badrinath. You can take these courses for free. I am currently doing these to just brush up - That's all I know...

Hope that helps!

Knowing VBA definitely helps, you should definitely try to get a good handle on that. SQL and Python are also good but knowing VBA gets you more comfortable with those. I don't know SAS as I've always used SQL but would like to learn it.

Hi Brian,

Is there any reputed VBA or SQL book? I bought one on Excel 2016 Bible by John Walkenbach - however the SpreadsheetSuperstar that you recommended has a lot of interesting and useful Excel videos on Youtube - thanks for that!

Unfortunately, the owner of Spreadsheet Superstar passed away recently and that site is no longer supported outside of youtube. I don't know of any others other than what you could find via Google.

Hi,

I am planning to learn financial modelling. So just wanted to know about the best course to learn. Are there any online material providers for financial modelling like the Schweser and BT videos for FRM/CFA.
