Quant Analysis - Basics

Starting out on P1.T2, I notice that these threads are relatively old with regards to questions and answers for questions 300.1/2/3 etc.

As i say, I've just started T2; I understand the concepts however as I'm working through the maths I'm struggling to piece together the relevance in the notes to the worked answers and notation therein.

I also note in the introductory video David moves over topics quickly almost suggesting that the calculus can be picked up at a later date. I guess i have a couple of questions therefore;

- Are there other suggested readings available which will help with the understanding on these basics (more detail and explanation) for example on topics such as integration?
- Where are the fundamentals of the maths explained? A large number of comments with regards to undertaking the FRM suggested that a mathematics background was not necessarily required.
thanks indeed,

Hello @anderale

First, I want to respond to your statement that, "these threads are relatively old with regards to questions and answers for questions 300.1/2/3 etc." We publish new practice questions weekly because the GARP curriculum changes every year. However, we do not remove old questions from the forum, as they are still relevant, and many times they have very helpful discussions. We organize our practice questions with a numbering system according to the year. For example, the 300.1/2/3 questions you referenced were published in 2013. Questions written in 2014 will be labeled as 400, questions written in 2015 as 500, etc. So even though you referenced 2013 questions, there are MANY new practice questions in the forum and in the study planner from more recent years. Please see our FAQ page here to learn more about our practice questions:

In regard to the FRM requiring a math background, you may find that this threads is helpful in refreshing any basic math skills that you will need: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/resources-for-refreshing-math-skills.8101/#post-31928

I hope this helps!

Nicole
