Proving formulas

Hi,

I am studying for FRM Part I by solely using BT notes and questions. I get stuck at questions where I have to prove one or more formulas. I have really no idea where to start and how to tackle those questions kind of questions. Are these type of questions reflecting the difficulty of the FRM exam and do I need to understand those questions (and its answers) in which formulas need to be derived or proved?

My background is a master's degree in Finance and while I understand the material and its intuitions, I have great difficulty in proving and deriving the formulas.

Hi,
No, you don't need to prove any formulas. BT sometimes goes way beyond to explain some formulas and their proofs, but No, you don't need to do that. However, you do need to understand them. I mean not only remember that CAPM formula is risk free rate + .... but also understand what that means, because there would be many conceptional questions stemming from those formulas. Don't worry, when I first saw that example with integrals, I thought we need to know that staff, but no, just need to know what they are about.

I see that you stated here that, "I am studying for FRM Part I by solely using BT notes and questions" but I can't seem to find a previous or current order in your account. I noticed because I just responded to another one of your posts with some helpful information about a question that you asked about using 2019 materials for 2020. My response in that thread doesn't really make sense if you've already purchased our materials from the BT website. But I can't seem to find an order for you. If you can provide your order number, I can make sure that it is linked to your account so there is no confusion. Unless, of course, you didn't purchase the materials from our website.

Oops. I meant Kaplan Schweser questions in addition to the GARP notes. Got slightly confused by hanging too much on the BT forum.

The official GARP notes are from 2019. Unless I buy 2020 (or register for the November Exam in May), I am stuck with the 2019 material.
