Part 1 Readings

Hi,

Are there meant to be BT materials for all readings? The reason I ask is that I can't for example find any materials (video, slides, question set) for:
  • FRM-5 “Understanding and Communicating Risk Appetite,” (COSO, Dr. Larry Rittenberg and Frank Martens, January 2012)
  • FRM-3 Zvi Bodie, Alex Kane, and Alan J. Marcus, Investments, 9th Edition (New York: McGraw-Hill, 2010) Chapter 10 Arbitrage Pricing Theory and Multifactor Models of Risk and Return

Can someone please advise when they get a moment?

Cheers,

Jose

@jose_aguilera,

At this time, the current materials on our website have not been updated to coincide with the 2014 curriculum. The readings that you are referring to are new to the 2014 curriculum so we have not published materials for them yet. We are working very hard on updating all of the materials and will begin publishing the new materials next week. We will also provide a publishing calendar, as we publish from January to April.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Nicole Manley

Hi,
The part 1 topic review, is the same document as the first reading (risk taking: a corporate governance approach). Is there any issue with the link?

Hello,
In the study notes "Risk Taking: A corporate Governance Approach" there is a formula for Cost of capital on page 8
Cost of Capital = COE × [E/(D+E)] + (Cost of Borrowing) × (1-t) × [E/(D+E)],

the end part in bold, should this instead be [D/(D+E)] to get the percentage of Debt? Just wondering if this was a typo. I apologize if this is not a typo or if this is a nit picky thing to point out.

Thanks in advance

@machaang,

R3 Bodie, Chapter 10 is new to the 2014 curriculum so that is why it is not available yet. We are currently in the process of updating our website materials to coincide with the new curriculum. You can view our publishing calendar, which gives target publishing dates for each reading here: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/2014-frm-publishing-calendar.7475/. You will notice that we publish materials from January to April. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,

Hi thanks Nicole. I am pretty new to this, bought few days back. Still trying to figure out the best way to use them. materials now available for downloads are for 2014 or 2013?. On the books it doesn't say that. I want to use my time only to read 2014. How can I figure it out? I am a person who wants paper copies. I print everyhing and study. I am worried that I would print old stuff and spend time on them.

@machaang,

Right now the study materials are primarily 2013, but you will notice in the study planner, the materials that have a "New" symbol next to them are for 2014. Although there are changes to the 2014 curriculum, there are many readings from 2013 that will not change or will change very little. Because of this, it would still benefit you to review the 2013 materials.

Here is an AIM-by-AIM comparison I prepared to analyze the changes in the materials from year to year:
In this spreadsheet, you can see the new readings for 2014, which are colored in blue. Any readings that are red are no longer in the 2014 curriculum, so if you are reviewing the current materials on our website you will know that you don't need to review those that are red. Any that are colored in black have not changed and remain the same for 2014.

We publish materials from January to April. You can view our publishing calendar here, which shows the target publishing dates for specific readings: https://forum.bionicturtle.com/threads/2014-frm-publishing-calendar.7475/page-2#post-27722.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Hi Nicole..is the following chapter in scope for FRM 2014? It mentions in the notes (Appendix in R6.P1.T1.Stulz_46_49_v5) that it was discontinued for FRM 2013: Stulz, Risk Management & Derivatives, Chapter 3: Creating Value with Risk Management
