Need advice for Level 2

Hi @David Harper CFA FRM and @Nicole Manley,

I cleared my FRM L1 in May 15. I now want to prepare for L2 for Niv 16.
Need you guys to suggest when to start preparing and whats the avg. Prep time for L2.
I cleared my L1 using BT only and i intend to do the same for L2 as well. Also request guidance as to when to purchase the prep pack.

Hello @DebbieM

Congratulations on passing Part 1 of the exam! Because everyone has a different background and experience, it is difficult for us to say when would be a good time for any individual person to begin their studies. From what I have seen, most people purchase their study package in January and begin their studies as soon as possible to ensure that they have sufficient time to learn and understand all of the concepts. There are many posts in the forum where our members have discussed their study plan, the number of hours studied and any other study tips that they found useful. Here are a couple of threads that can to help answer questions such as this:
You can find many other posts like this by searching "study hours" or "study plan" here in the forum. :)

Thank you,

Nicole

My experience was that I required slightly more time to prepare for L2 than L1. This was mainly because it's more qualitative in nature and hence requires more reading of text. L1 is more quantitative, which I find easier to absorb as the notes are more succinct. I would conservatively suggest that for L2 you should aim to spend the time spent on L1 + 15-20% to allow for the qualitative nature of the exam.
