CPE requirement for FRM title?

I'm wondering if CPE is a requirement for you to hold an FRM title. I'm hearing that you don't need to have a Garp membership, however to track your CPE points you do need to have a GARP membership.

I'm actually not that clear on what is an is not required to keep your FRM title.

//edit: I think... it's not a requirement... but I'm not sure about this some of my colleagues think it's a requirement and have been submitting credits since they passed (3 years ago)

@Pflik , GARP recommends Certified FRMs to enroll into CPE program , pls note that it's not a must for a certified FRM to enroll in CPE program . If a certified FRM wishes to enroll in the CPE program , he must hold a full membership with GARP and an affiliate status is not sufficient . Hope this is clear now .

I agree with @Dirar. Currently, once you qualify for the FRM designation by passing both Parts of the exam and submitting approved work experience (i.e., you become a Certified FRM, which itself is referred to a "designation" ... I am always tempted to call it a certification ), then you have no further requirements. The FRM CPE program is voluntary (interestingly, the ERP is mandatory); e.g.,emphasis mine:
The Continuing Professional Education program is open only to Certified FRMs and Certified ERPs. The program requires that participants earn 40 credit hours every two years in order to best maintain their certification. Credits may be earned by participating in risk-relevant programs accessible worldwide.
  • For FRMs, participating in the CPE program is currently voluntary. Certified FRMs are strongly encouraged to enroll in the CPE program in the year they are certified or the following January.
  • For ERPs, participation in the CPE program is mandatory. Certified ERPs are required to participate in the program in order to use their ERP professional designation. ERPs are encouraged to enroll in the program the year they become certified but may choose to enroll the following January.

My 2cents, yes it's right that CPE is not mandatory at the moment, however GARP has recently conducted a survey about this topic, and thus change can be made in this area in future

Hi David, quick question: are you going to offer any CPE-qualified courses? I've come accros a list of "approved CPE providers" and BT is one of them..

Hi EK, Sorry for delay responding. About CPE-courses, I don't know: we just conducted two surveys, to large audiences (hopefully you received request to participate?). The plan is to invest in new product(s) based in part on those results, and other data/research, as well. Thanks for asking!
