Bruce Edward's Calculus course from the Teaching Company

Hi David,

I just read in your most recent email update that you are taking a look at Bruce Edward's calculus course from the Teaching Company. I just wanted to echo your positive comments on the course (and on the Teaching Company in general. Arthur T. Benjamin's course on Discrete Math is also excellent!). I picked up Professor Edward's course over the holidays during one of the Teaching Company's discount sales and have been quite impressed so far. His explanations and examples are clear, and the lessons are in easily digestible 30 minute segments. As you mentioned in the email, the course is not free. However, if any other readers of the forum are interested in the course I suggest regularly checking the company's website since it frequently offers courses on sale at good discounts. My local library also has a large collection of TC materials available for loan, so that might also be an option for some readers.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work here on Bionic Turtle!

Regards,
A.B.

p.s. For what it's worth, I've also heard very good things about the free on-line courses through Coursera from a friend who has already taken a couple of them.

Hi A.B.,

Thanks, GREAT tip: The Teaching Company constantly runs promotions, so I never buy the retail, in my experience, you can always wait (not very long) for a promotion that will reduce the price in your choice course. Thank you for reminding that they offer discounts (i don't know about you, but I get a catalog almost every day).

Re Coursera, I checked into Model Thinking last night, and WOW, it's flooded with students. Welcome to the future where you can learn anything

Thanks for checking it!

As a follow up on this thread, I received an email from the Teaching Company this morning announcing a one-day only sale on every course on offer. Looks like this is valid only for today (March 3rd), so if anyone is interested in picking up the calculus course (or anything else) now is a great time to do it!

I know the feeling David! I'm amassing quite a backlog myself, and it was all I could do to stop myself from ordering yet another one today. Calculus I could at least justify as related to FRM studies; everything else just becomes a tempting distraction! I hope they have another one-day sale like this after May 19th! :)

Ha, once you are on their list, they are relentless ... i don't know why I encourage them ... don't worry, they will have innumerable sales. You need their math course to quantify their selling behavior. You can also get a physical catalog sent to you, apparently, almost every day. Or I'm on several lists, it's probably time to admit a problem and seek a support group (i wonder if they have a course on learning addictions ... hmmm... off to go look now!)
