2020 Exam Update from GARP (updated on a regular basis)

That's shocking. The situation hasn't really changed since 5th November 20 (national lockdown) and if so they should have told us they are going to postpone if that was going to be the case. This approach wastes people's time / holiday for no reason. My GARP still shows 21st November to add to the confusion.
I see now they have sent an e-mail but still frustrating.

I'd believe that the syllabus for the Jan exam date wouldn't change - I have only read that it will change if it is postponed to May. But, based on the current circumstances, do you believe the Jan exam date will happen?

On the other hand side, I researched the rate of infections (based on the data published by the John Hopkins University) for Luxembourg. The rates (total cases, 7day trend and number of active cases) more than double the last month (ie after the exam from October was postponed, while then it was considered too dangerous). So more infections/Second wave = not too dangerous? And what about the additional month of study for the people from Oct which were moved to Nov? But we can sign a waiver and release agreement, its all fair and square.

At what point will there be syllabus changes? I would hate to have an exam postponed and then have to study again in line with new syllabus for the same exam?
Hello @mbbx5va2

Candidates who are in a location where the exam is postponed to January will be tested on the current (2020) curriculum unless they have been deferred to May, and then they will be tested on the 2021 curriculum.

UPDATE: NOV 17, 2020
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA NOVEMBER EXAMS POSTPONED TO JANUARY

All candidates registered for November’s Exams will automatically be registered for January’s Exams, which will be based on the same curriculum. Candidates do not have to take additional steps to register for January.

Oh, I wouldn't give anything on their confirmation, since they pretty much can cancel last minute if they want, like they did in October. Or did you receive anything more than this generic email?
Will see if any changes with the announcement from the Prime minister - but today again GARP confirmed it is still on. They would take extra measures (I guess std response). I really do hope there will not be any last minute cancel though.

@Nicole Seaman Still nothing on Chicago area. That is surprising. The mayor is now enforcing the 14 day quarantine for all outside visitors entering the city unless they are "essential" workers. If they cancelled Philly I am really surprised they are going to try and do Chicago. Numbers here are WAY worse than PA. What I would say to anyone trying to come here from outside of the city of Chicago; if you are are not here now I don't know how you will be able to get in. Tomorrow I am going to call the hotel and see if they are still having this test. You cannot have more than 10 people in a "gathering" now.

Word on the grapevine is that Melbourne is being postponed. Stand by for official confirmation.
Very disappointed Melbourne is postponed. Waste time. Actually Melbourne should be much safer than most area now. Don't understand if students can go back to school then why this exam can not be hold. Also it's unfair to January candidates since if the pass ratio is same then the average pass score on November could be much lower than January due to many unprepared candidates.

Hello,
I am taking the exam in Buffalo, New York. I am little unclear as to if the announcement on Nov 3rd pertains only to New York city or for the whole of New York state? I had sent them an e-mail but no response until now. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks,
Padma.

@Miles77 I don't know if that's fair. I'd say that students in Asia which will likely make up the bulk of the test scores on Saturday, since almost everywhere in the West is cancelling, are usually very well prepared for these kinds of tests historically. You could also make the argument that, if my assertion is correct, those taking the test now would have a harder time given the numbers will be shifted up as all average numerical scores (assuming my assertion is right of course) would be shifted towards Asia's test scores. In that respect, its possibly better if you take it in January. Just a friendly counter-point given the realities of probability and distribution in a Gaussian Distribution. You have no idea where the numbers will fall; but the mean is still the mean. If the mean is thus calculated on higher numerical numbers [assuming Asia continues to put up high scores like they have on most standardized exams] than smaller numbers which (invariably occur in a normal year which this is NOT); GARP cannot shift the mean and standard deviation as much to account for lower scores. So, in a sense, the opposite of what you assert could also as likely be true.

It’s only New York, NY (New York City) not upstate New York.

Hello @tylerswob

GARP canceled exams right up until the day before for the October exam, so there may be more cancellations in the next couple of days. The hotel will be able to tell you if the exam is still being held there, but if it is not, it is still possible that GARP has or will change the venue, which we have seen happen. So, the only way to know if GARP is going to cancel in Chicago is if they announce it. I'm watching closely and will post any postponements as soon as they are announced.

I'd be surprised if GARP doesn't cancel Chicago's site. I just canceled flight and hotel reservations, and I predict Chicago's site will be canceled eventually given such high cases in Cook County.

hi guys

Are you refering to Luxembourg ? I called DoubleT earlier this afternoon and they are not aware of any cancellation. I guess GARP wants to push for the exams to happen, but they also need the approval from the local authority... thats probably why it got postponed last month. That said I am still surprised with the lack of anticipation from GARP, looking at the number of last minute notif.

I think vine is referring to the first part to my first part where I am referring to UK/others. Personally I wouldn't believe that if an exam gets moved to Jan the situation tends to be so much better, I was just curious what people are really thinking about it (because personally I wouldn't believe so).

But if it got postponed last month, I really wonder why it should be allowed now. I am also still suprised with their lack of anticipation... at this point I don't really care anymore if it happens or not.
