Unable to view files with "special characters"

Hi there, I have just purchased the Basic materials and have downloaded some of them. However, I noticed that I am unable to read some files. I followed the instruction to download Adobe PDF reader but it still doesn't work.
I am using MacBook Pro with OS Version 10.9.2.

Appreciate your advise please.

@tosuhn,

Are you able to read all of the updated and new files (they show an update date in their title)? We changed our format this year so there should be no issues reading the newest files that we have published, but there are older materials from last year in the Study Planner so it may be those that are giving you an issue. We also recommend downloading Foxit Reader HERE. Please let me know if it is only the old files that you are not able to view, and if downloading Foxit Reader fixes this issue.

Thank,

Nicole

Hi @tosuhn Please try Foxit as Nicole suggests; or, really, any number of decent client readers should work for all of the files. Nicole's reference to old/new files should not be relevant when viewing the notes from client PDF reader software, as opposed to the trying to read from the browser. (actually, I think all of the files should work if you are using adobe's pdf reader, but it's just not our primary recommendation for PC users adobe's is not the best reader for multiple reasons).

The older files contain a non-standard font, which we know are a problem when trying to view the notes from a browser, but these fonts should not be a problem with (eg) Foxit. Please let us know? Thanks,

By the bye, Nicole & David, thank you very much for switching to the new font in the updated notes --- not only can the newer notes be viewed in Preview.app on OS X, but I also find the newer font to be much easier to read (esp. when the pages are printed 2-up). ...Didn't want a good deed to go unnoticed. Thank you!

hi David & Nicole, Thanks both for your quick reply. I am using MAC OS and I noticed that the Foxit Reader only works on PC and unfortunately I am not running Windows parallel on my mac.
I am not sure if the files that I can't read are those "old" files. But I am not able to read the files from Hull, Chapter 22 (Reading 13) onwards and for the whole lot under Financial Market & Products.

p/s: I haven't start downloading Valuation & Risk Models.

Any other solution available? Hope to hear from you guys soon!

@tosuhn I'm on OS X 10.9, and use Acrobat Reader X for the files that don't render properly in Preview. Acrobat appears to render Hull notes and all other OK for me.

@inik,

Thank you for the suggestion! It helps when we have users who are using the same OS as others who may be having trouble. @tosuhn, please let us know if inik's suggestion works for you.

Thanks,

Nicole

I forgot that foxit only runs window. But come to think of it, all of our yet-to-be updated notes recommend the adobe reader for Mac, and consistent with @inik's observation, and clearly we've had a lot of customers read these on macs without any problems. I would be interested to know if there is a Mac reader that is best among the non-adobe alternatives? Thank,s
