EB Webinar #4

Hello David,
I just watched the recorded EB Webinar #4 on Sampling Inference, and I am wondering if there's any practice questions like those in Webinars 1, 2, and 3?

By the way, I'm really glad that I bought your program! I was just going through the Early Birds Webinars and some of the 08' notes, and I was surprised about how much more I learned from your lessons as compared to reading the GARP Handbook by myself, and also with so much more fun! I'm really excited about what's coming next!

One thing I'm curious about - Will you be hosting live Webinars in regular sessions as well? I would love to participate in one of those!
Thanks! - Jack

Hi Jack,

I didn't do practice questions for EB #4 and #5 sorry. We will have relevant, fresh practice questions, of course, and (like we are doing for the Jorion text), we will be giving answers to many of the end-of-chapter questions for Gujarati (the generally relevant text for the #4 and #5 EB).

Thank you for saying you are glad you bought. We have two primary goals:(i) to ensure you feel that way by the end, and (ii) that you pass. So, we'll take that as a challenge to keep up our work...

"Will you be hosting live Webinars in regular sessions as well"
You might notice this question was raised in EB #5 and the answer is: yes, I will host some live webinar reviews. But I haven't scheduled them yet because they will be review sessions. I think we learned that the "live" webinars have advantages and disadvantages; I tried to stay more on task in #4 and #5, but even then, I got some strongly felt feedback that the recorded versions are more efficient (my paraphrase, some felt that fielding questions slowed it down too much...)...so I think we'll use the live webinar to review key points...but somebody (I can't remember who??!!) suggested that customers might submit problems/cases as a basis for the webinar review. I think that's a great idea, so if you spot a thorny problem or case you'd like to feature in the webinar, please let me know.

Thanks! David

I agree with you on hosting live cram sessions (based on the problems submitted) . After watching EB Webinar #5, I did feel that the questions were really slowing things down a bit too much. I guess everybody's on a different level in terms of their preparation, and so some of the questions asked were really going far beyond what was being covered. Maybe it'll be better if we can filter the questions down to those that are more relevant? By the way, I think I am having trouble finding the excel spreadsheets that were used in the Webinars, are they available yet? Thanks.

Jack,

"Maybe it’ll be better if we can filter the questions down to those that are more relevant?"
I agree. Frankly, the EB were the first "live" webinars I've conducted; at first,. I thought I was supposed to try and answer all questions. But we've learned, and we had some training, and we need to do at least two things: 1. make sure an assistant attends (to field off-topic questions and help stay on task), and also, as you suggest, capture/filter off-topic questions. So, yes, I agree: it is key for us to manage the off-topic queries. You are right, there is diversity, but the f/back I got was primarly from folks who prepared and I think it's fair to them to stay on-task...

Re spreadsheets, 3/5 should be up...i am working on #4 and #5 and will put up w/in a couple of hours...Thanks, David
