Has the list on critical core readings as promised by David come out. I bought that pack from GARP but I wanted to go over them according to David's recommendation.
My "promise" was premature: based on last year's AIM list I expected I could provide such guidance. Last year's reading list contained several redundancies. For example, quant contained THREE overlapping readings on volatility (Hull, Jorion, L. Allen) such that I could have said "Hull certaintly, then Allen, Jorion on this not essential"
But this year's AIM list is different. My overriding evaluation of this year's AIM list is that, rather than redundancies, it omits foundational ideas. Therefore, quite the opposite of last year's list, it is easier for me to add readings than subtract.
Especially in credit and operational risk: certain foundational ideas are skipped (e.g., transition matrix is not introduced in Credit).
If you consider Quantitative, they are all important and it is not an issue of redundancies so much as paucity of coverage. E.g.,
Monte Carlo is barely covered
Extreme value theory is barely covered
So, for this year's AIM list it is much easier for me to ADD readings than SUBTRACT. And, to GARP's credit, some redundancies have been streamlined: only one volatility reading (unfortunately, it is not Hull. Hull would be better than Allen. See why this task is impossible?)
I am preparing a "core themes" document/list that itemizes the 24-36 key themes...but in regard to this "promise" of a shortcut to avoid readings, please do not wait for me or use me as an excuse to defer preparations.
Plus, I am in no way endorsing that you skip certain core readings - the exam is too difficult.
