Higher pass rates cheapen the FRM certification...period.

May 2011 Pass Rates Released - Exam was too easy!

http://www.garp.org/frm/overview/frm-facts/frm-statistics-and-charts.aspx 53.1% Part 1 61.6% Part 2 As a passer of Nov 2010 Part 1 (39%) Im a little disapointed the exam got easier. The main advantage this exam should have over the CFA is that its tougher to pass. And given the CFA...

    Results FRM May 2011

Lets also remember the pass rate for Nov '10 L1 was 39%, the lowest pass rate since the early days of the exams existence. As a new FRM holder and someone who put in 350-400 hours into this thing I hope it remains the toughest exam out there. But I guess it is possible if May '11...

David - any idea why it takes 6 weeks in the first place and why they would have issues meeting that deadline? With scantron exams they must have the data loaded within a week or two at most. I would just love to know what goes into this grading process that takes so long. Thanks

this is remarkably brutal and this is after 6 week lag for a multiple choice scantron exam. I don't care how complex the curve methodology might be, thats a joke.

If you've taken L2, go to "Update Profile". Mine says "FRM Holder" under FRM Status..... I got the same thing, as well as the inability to register because I have supposedly passed. But this song and dance is so ridiculous after 6 weeks delay on a 80/100 question multiple choice exam.

FRM 1&2 Nov 2011 advice please

I did Schweser only for L1 and BT/Schweser combo for L2. Schweser's practice exams are not hard enough especially for L1. But the study notes are concise and well organized, and the Qbank and Practice exams are really nice to have even if they aren't hard enough. Its easy and convienent...

    FRM PART 2 Exam - may 2011

@ Manish.. Understand your point of view but the question was how much was due to "C". So, if there is something due to "C", that should be made good by the CCP. Question was ctpy credit exposure. C is due 8 no matter what. Vs. a CCP the ctpy credit exposure is considered zero by definition.

    FRM PART 2 Exam - may 2011

The trick in that question was that the vol figures were given ANNUALIZED and they were asking for the ONE DAY VaR, so you should scale both VaRs vols by the root of time. I think that's what they were really testing. I spent about 20 min total on this question (came back once I was done...

    FRM PART 2 Exam - may 2011

Agree with olajawon 100%. There were a few stumpers and weird questions but nothing like level 1. Maybe L1 scared me into more prep this time around, I definitely put in the time. But I was shocked how many softballs there were.

Optimize the time management fro FRM Exam

Assume you are taking L1 for first time. In Nov 2010 L1 the exam was frontloaded with 15-20 longer math questions. This was a rumor I heard that turned out to be reality. It seems like a strategy of theirs to make the tight time window even more stressful by doing this. I just answered...

    Why is L2 80 questions vs. L1 100 questions?

Thanks David. I took a 80 question practice exam this past weekend and I was done in 3:15. On L1 it was always a race to the finish, both in practice and on exam day. I guess my question is more geared towards how L2 candidates in the past felt the time constraint was compared to L1. I do...

Nov 2010 Level I Pass Rate was 39.3%

The thing that suprised me was that it felt like every math based question had some sort twist on the standard calculation. Nothing was straightforward. Some questions had lots of words and info but were simple calcs. Some required you calc some other peice first before doing the primary...

    Why is L2 80 questions vs. L1 100 questions?

Obvious assumption is L2 questions are longer, but is this the case? Given the material it does not seem obvious that L2 questions would need to be longer. Any insight on this?

Nov 2010 Level I Pass Rate was 39.3%

Thanks for the additional tips. On the kaplan testing, don't you find that the exam testing questions are a bit to straightforward/easy. Also the database is not that large and you start to recognise the questions, assuming your are referring to the web tool where you can simulate timed exams ...

Nov 2010 Level I Pass Rate was 39.3%

Got to assume if level 2 not graded due to level 1 fail, then it doesnt count toward pass rate. But who knows you might be right. Point is this exam is brutal. Interested how it compares to CFA in terms of pure nasty difficulty level.

Nov 2010 Level I Pass Rate was 39.3%

I think the level 2 pass rate makes sense. Level 1 weeds out those who did not put in the work, no-shows etc. Once you are through Level 1 you are much more vested in the program, as well as experienced in the material. Level 2 also seems more qualitative. In fact the level 2 pass rate is...

Nov 2010 Level I Pass Rate was 39.3%

For Level I I used Kaplan 100%. I did not use BT or the original texts. I am using BT together with Kaplan for Level II because of the feedback I heard about David's practice problems. The real exam was on a completely different level from the Kaplan practice exams. The thing that saved me...
