Everyone should have received an email two weeks before the exam from 'FRM Exam' with the subject line 'Last reminders for the November 16, 2019..'
The third last question and answer in the email reads
'When do I learn if I passed or not?
Exam results - pass or fail - will be sent via email...
The question looks incomplete. For simplicity let’s say the question spelled it out that you have to find the distribution for X1 given the condition that X2 <=0. Because we are redefining the space from X2 taking any of the original values to only 0 or -1 we need to scale the corresponding X1...
We can’t look at a cut-off as THE deciding factor for passing the exam.
As per GARP, ‘The exam result is determined by many factors and is not predetermined nor is it a specific percentage of the points either for individual modules areas or for the entire exam. The exam results are determined...
On the GARP website it is stated, 'The exam result is determined by many factors and is not predetermined nor is it a specific percentage of the points either for individual modules areas or for the entire exam. The exam results are determined by the FRM/ERP Committee(s). '
Does this imply that...
To clarify, I passed part 1 on the first try. Unfortunately, that's not the case with part 2. Having seen the part 2 exam more than once I would say the difficulty level is consistent.
In their webcast in the beginning of the year, couple of things stood out:
1. Anything in the GARP material is...
I passed part 1 last year in May. I had used only the GARP material then so didn’t have much practice. I had to blind guess in the last 5 questions as I was running out of time....assuming I got none of those right I was expecting a score of low 70s.
I believe GARP tries to be consistent with...
Do you remember your answer for question 2? Based on BT discussion the correct way to solve is to take the BINOM.INV function on excel which gives you 7 defaults. So, I believe Credit VAR = (7-4)*6mil = 18 mil. I definitely got this one wrong, I chose 11.xx%
Did the question say that the size of the trade was large compared to the daily volume traded? N^3/2 is applicable if we offload the position in parts. I remember the notionals being 50m and 100m but don't recall what product it was and if there was an increase in the horizon.
Sorry, my short...
Lots of questions on hurdle rate and liquidity risk.
1. It seems GARP loves to concentrate on one or two topics chosen in a random fashion. You would think they would cover as many readings as possible and each question counts and is worth the same points....but who knows.
2. The words novate...
The question on the after tax risk adjusted return on capital, we were given expected loss, unexpected loss and economic capital. I had not seen unexpected loss in any RAROC problem earlier so this one threw me off. Given that we are told the unexpected loss value, are we obliged to use it in...
To add to @nikic, the numbers as I recall were similar to the following:
Say there are 400 companies at time t=0 and the number of companies surviving at the end of each year is,
T=1 , surviving = 392
T=2 , surviving = 383
T=3 , surviving = 376
T=4 , surviving = 372
Then what is the default...
