Weight of calculations

Hi all,

When I consult the learning objectives for the Quantitative Analysis, it mostly mentions "describe... " "interpret..." "explain..." and rarely mentions that you need to calculate anything. Can someone give me an indication of the weight of calculations in the FRM Exam I? Does it include a lot of calculations, or mostly interpretations as mentioned in the learning objectives

Thanks in advance

There are definitively a lot of calculations in the Quantitative Analysis part of FRM I, but I would expect that to be reflected in the AIMs. A Describe, Interpret or Explain AIM should not ask for a calculation.
But be aware, that many AIMs have a Calculate hidden inside e.g.:
"Define joint probability, describe a probability matrix, and calculate joint probabilities using probability matrices."
or
"Define and construct an appropriate null and alternative hypothesis, and calculate an appropriate test statistic."

Would you say they are more 1 or 2 step type calculation similar to CFA L1 or more intensive multi-part calculations similar to CFA L2? Or even more similar to the BT practice questions, which are driving me insane? Just want to get a gauge

Hi,
Yes there would be generally multi step calculation questions as per my experience in the exam, the one liner calculation questions as we see in cfa L1 shall be there but very few.
BT questions are themselves based on and inspired by past FRM exam questions so that you can think of what types of questions are common in the exam.
thanks
