I will be sitting for the 2009 whole exam. I would like to ask anyone who did the test last year to post their experience on what they used to prepare for the test - The FRM material or other provider or mix.

I used the FRM Handbook (4th Edition) & the core readings.

Make sure you learn how to use the financial calculator (whichever model you are using) well. Otherwise it will prove to be a big headache.

Thanks Fabian. Just wondering how long it took for you to prepare with the Handbook and the core readings?

I prepared since April. It took me about 2.5 to 3 months to finish the whole thing. I spent another month looking through the whole thing again (I have summarized the notes by now, so it took me less time). The last two months were used for digging into books (i.e. Hull, Rubinstein, Jorion, Wilmott, Crouhy, Culp, etc) for further information.

Pay attention to examples regarding calculations. Each reading has its own key point. Identify it and state it down somewhere. It will help a lot during your revision. If you have time, try to read most of the books they have suggested, not just the selected topic itself.
