you do not have to do the events on the GARP list, if you do courses through your work or attend conferences or workshops, give presentations etc you can submit these details and GARP will decide how many credits you receive...
I think it's a little unfair to criticise a fellow candidate / peer. Siqueue contributed a lot to this forum so I am guessing he's a very thorough Risk Manager / Quant and diligent in his work. Here he was just trying to advise everyone how best to pass the exam. That's the main goal afterall...
